DAY 1 Cusco - City tour

At 1:00 pm, we will meet you in the lobby of your hotel to begin your tour. From here, you will head to Qoricancha, the Temple of the Sun, at Qoricancha you will observe the construction methods of Inca culture and Catholicism. This was the key spiritual center of the Incas, leading to the four quarters of the Inca Empire. There is also a bronze high altar to be seen.

From Qoricancha, your group will walk along Avenida El Sol, where you will take your bus for the 25-minute ride to the majestic Inca site, Sacsayhuaman, with its enigmatic walls weighing more than 200 tons. You will listen to your guide’s explanation and then explore on your own.

From Sacsayhuaman, you will take a five-minute bus ride to the Inca site of Q’enqo to see its fascinating Inca altars. Next, it will take another five-minute drive to Puka Pukara, a small circular Inca site. The last stop on our tour is Tambomachay, a water temple with impressive water fountains, which the Incas used for bathing. We will then return to Cusco, where the tour ends at the main square, unless you take a private tour, in which case, we will return you to your hotel.

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 8 am and take you on a road around the mountains north of Cusco. On the way, we will stop at a famous point known as El Mirador, from there, we will be able to see the Sacred Valley and get a glimpse of Inca history. The Sacred Valley was one of the main areas that the Incas settled. There is an unusual abundance of fertile plains in this high area of the Andes. You will also witness the great contour canals and irrigation canals left by the Incas.

Later, we will head to the ruins of Pisac. Here, you will witness and learn about the Inca culture. You will see incredible stone artwork and impressive agricultural terraces. After exploring, we will return to the lower town of Pisac to stop at a bustling handicraft market.

After an early breakfast at your hotel, you will walk 1:40 minutes to the ruins. Once at Machu Picchu, you will have a 2-hour guided tour, followed by time to explore on your own. The one-hour climb to the Sun Gate is free and available to all. The usual train departure to Ollantaytambo is in the afternoon, followed by a bus to your hotel in Cusco.
