The 3 Circuits in the Inca City of Machu Picchu

The 3 Circuits in the Inca City of Machu Picchu

Before purchasing your entry ticket, it is essential to choose a circuit. Each circuit includes several routes — such as the Inca Bridge, Intipunco, Machu Picchu Mountain, Wayna Picchu, Uchuy Picchu, the Great Cavern (Temple of the Moon), Temple of the Sun, Sacred Plaza, Sacred Rock, and more. Visitors must select one of the three available circuits when buying their tickets.

Each circuit is designed to offer a distinct experience according to the interests and physical abilities of the visitor:

Circuit 1 (Panoramic)

  • Route 1-A: Machu Picchu Mountain Route
  • Route 1-B: Upper Terrace Route
  • Route 1-C: Intipunku Gate Route
  • Route 1-D: Inca Bridge Route

This circuit allows visitors to appreciate the Inca city from its highest vantage point: the Guardian’s House viewpoint. From there, you can observe structures such as the Temple of the Sun, the Sacred Plaza, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Intihuatana, and more — though it is not possible to walk through these Inca structures.

This circuit takes a maximum of 2 hours 30 minutes and does not include any additional hikes.

Ideal for: Visitors who want a comprehensive experience and have the physical ability to walk sections that may include steep stairs and uneven terrain.

Circuit 2 (Classic Machu Picchu)

  • Route 2-A: Designed Route
  • Route 2-B: Lower Terrace Route

Circuit 2 is the most requested entry option among tourists, as it is the most complete and allows you to walk through the interior of the Inca citadel. It is divided into 2 similar routes that both offer a full tour of Machu Picchu, including the classic postcard photo.

Ideal for: Those with limited time or who prefer a less strenuous walk but still want to experience the highlights of Machu Picchu.

Circuit 3 (Royalty)

  • Route 3-A: Wayna Picchu Mountain Route
  • Route 3-B: Designed Route
  • Route 3-C: Great Cavern Route
  • Route 3-D: Huchuy Picchu Route

The Royalty Circuit allows visitors to stay up to 2 hours 30 minutes, not including the additional routes to Wayna Picchu mountain, Uchuy Picchu peak, or the Cavern.

Ideal for: Families with young children, elderly visitors, or those with reduced mobility who prefer a calmer, more accessible tour.
