White-Water Rafting in Cusco
Rafting in Cusco is an exciting, fun-filled way to navigate the white waters of the region’s rivers. Cusco is a popular rafting destination thanks to its beautiful landscapes and rivers offering different difficulty levels. Participants are guided by expert instructors who ensure a safe and memorable experience through thrilling rapids and crystal-clear Andean waters.
The most popular rivers are the Vilcanota (sections: Chuquicahuana and Cusipata), the Apurímac, and the Urubamba.
River Difficulty Levels
- Level I: Very easy, no risk — just let the current carry you.
- Level II: Current with small waves and minor rocks.
- Level III: Current with rocks, holes, and waves — enjoyable.
- Level IV: Stronger current with rocks and holes; greater volume or gradient; slight risk. Safety kayak not required.
- Level V: More powerful than Level IV, with a risk element. Maximum commercial rafting level. Safety kayak required.
Two Sections on the Urubamba River
- Cusipata: The gentlest section — ideal for nervous beginners and children. Flat Levels I–II in the dry season (May–September); can reach Level III in the wet season.
- Chuquicahuana: More challenging. Level III rapids in the dry season; can reach Level IV in the rainy season.
Tour Itinerary
- 8:00–9:00 a.m.: Pick-up from your hotel or a central meeting point.
- 4:30–5:30 p.m.: End of excursion.
